GCWUF Observes World Fisheries Day; VC, Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen Inaugurated the EventÚFAISALABAD, November 26, 2025 — The Department of Zoology, Government College Women University Faisalabad, marked World Fisheries Day with an awareness walk and a Live Fish Project Competition, held under the leadership and active encouragement of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen (T.I.). The event aimed to promote sustainable fisheries, aquatic biodiversity, and responsible aquaculture practices among students.ÚProf. Dr. Kanwal Ameen inaugurated the Live Fish Project Competition and commended the creativity and scientific relevance of the students’ work. She appreciated students’ projects ranging from ornamental fish keeping, aquaponics, rice–fish culture, and recirculating aquaculture systems to biodegradable plastics, fish-scale jewelry, water quality management, and indigenous fish biodiversity. She emphasized the vital role of fisheries education also in national food security and encouraged students to pursue research-driven initiatives in this field.ÚThe event began with an awareness walk led by faculty and students holding placards on aquatic pollution, overfishing, fish conservation, and the significance of fish as a protein source. M.Phil. students organized a fish food stall also highlighting the nutritional value and culinary diversity of fish.ÚA certificate distribution ceremony followed the competition, where the Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of Dr. Tamseela Mumtaz, Incharge Department of Zoology, and her team for delivering a meaningful and impactful event that aligns with GCWUF’s vision of promoting scientific awareness and sustainable practices.
