Government College Women University Faisalabad in collaboration with Mamacare Foundation organized a Breast Health Certification Workshop on 21-23 February 2023. Vice Chancellor GCWUF Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq (T.I) was the chief guest of the event held under the convenorship of Director Academics, Dr. Zill-i-Huma Nazli. The organizing committee included Dr Salma Shahid, Dr Tamseela Mumtaz, Dr Hira Munir, Dr Sumaira Aslam and Dr Safina Kausar from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The resource person of the workshop was a highly experienced and knowledgeable breast health professional, Dr. Muhammad Ilyas Khan, the first male breast health specialist in town. The objectives of the Breast Self-Examination Certification Workshop were to provide an overview of breast health and the importance of early detection, discussion on the latest research and evidence-based practices in breast health, enhancement of knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals in breast health assessment, screening, and diagnosis, improvements in the quality of breast health care through a multidisciplinary approach, and provision of a platform for networking and collaboration among healthcare professionals. The workshop covered a range of topics related to breast health, including anatomy and physiology of the breast, breast cancer risk assessment and management, clinical breast examination techniques Breast imaging modalities and interpretation, biopsy and pathology techniques, breast cancer treatment options, and survivorship care and support. The workshop was attended by 650 students along with faculty members from different disciplines: Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, IT, Food Science and Technology, Nutritional Sciences, Sociology, Political Sciences, and Zoology. Participants declared the workshop very informative, engaging, and relevant to the scope. The Breast Health Certification Workshop was a successful event that provided students and faculty with valuable knowledge and skills in breast health assessment, screening, and diagnosis. The workshop highlighted the importance of early detection and a multidisciplinary approach to breast health care. We hope that the knowledge and skills gained from this workshop will be applied to improve the quality of breast health care and ultimately reduce the burden of breast cancer in our communities.
