Vice Chancellor

Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF), situated at the heart of the city Faisalabad, was established in 1934 and was upgraded to the current status in January 2013. Since its inception, it has been consistently striving to empower female students with educational skills by offering BS, M.A, MSc, MS/M.Phil and PhD Degree Programs in 25 disciplines. The highly motivated faculty, determined to exploit all available resources, is contributing substantially to materialize the dream of women self-dependency and empowerment.
Research is deemed to be a significant performance indicator which gives a distinguished status to an institution. Keeping this fact into consideration, GCWUF is focused to create an ideal intellectual environment where students and faculty can achieve research excellence in their respective fields. To promote research culture at MPhil and PhD level, 40 new labs including a Hi-Tec lab are established and furnished with the advanced laboratory apparatus. Installment of multimedia in all classrooms is an important step towards introducing technical innovation in academic infrastructure. In the wake of Covid-19 Pandemic, academic activities are successfully shifted to online and hybrid mode of instruction, assisted by the advanced Learning Management System developed by our highly skilled Technical Management Team.
Fully cognizant of the significance of knowledge-based economy and information technology, GCWUF aims to introduce new programs which are more specific to women employability and entrepreneurship. In this connection the new market-oriented degree programs; Tourism and Hospitality Management, Data Science, Artificial intelligence, Cyber Security and computational Physics are going to be introduced.
Economically marginalized students are supported through need-based and merit-based scholarships. All efforts are directed to extend maximum reinforcement to these students for the smooth running of their academic journeys without any financial disruption.
At campus level, multiple societies are functionalized to explore the hidden talents of students. These societies are activated to design diverse opportunities for the mental and spiritual development of the potential participants. They are further objected to inculcate the desirable qualities of patience and tolerance to approve diversity of opinions, beliefs and practices among students in immediate and outer environment. At academic level, conferences, seminars and workshops are frequently conducted to nourish the creative and analytical capacities of students.
We, at GCWUF, are highly committed and determined to enhance our quality standards at internal and external level to achieve the objectives outlined in the University Mission Statement. All efforts would be utilized to renovate and develop new infrastructure for providing very respectable / conducive environment to faculty / staff, academic blocks, computer laboratories, students hostels, digitalization of library, general and specialized research labs and other miscellaneous facilities at University Campus. We are fully hopeful that by developing strategies, in complete conformity to the teaching of Islam and challenges of modern world, we shall be able to make a positive difference in the world.

Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq

Vice Chancellor


Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq has a strong academic, teaching and research background. She has completed her PhD in Environmental Engineering from East China University of Science and technology, Shanghai, China. Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq is serving in education sector for the last thirty-two years in the fields of Science and Engineering. She is the recipient of International Gold Medal Award for Advanced Materials (Sweden) and various others. She is honored by winning eight research grants worth more than 100 million (Swedish Research Council Grant, TDF, NRPU, Pak-China, Pak-USAID).

She has established research linkages with Swedish Research Council Sweden; Chinese Academy of Sciences, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan & Ministry of Science and Technology. Sustainable research collaboration with KTH University Stockholm Sweden, North Dakota University USA, Brunel University UK, University of Glasgow UK, East China University of Science and Technology Shanghai China; Wuhan University China; Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Qingdao, China , Yıldız Technical University, Istanbul, TURKEY and Eskisehir Osmangazi University Eskisehir, Turkey. Her research area includes innovative and low-cost processes for recovery of water, metals, polymers and electricity, conversion of Molasses of sugar industries into materials used for heart stents, bone cartilage and biodegradable food grade plastic synthesis. Similarly, she developed Hydrocheck kit to avoid water borne diseases. The knowledge created at her lab is in turn helping community and its outcomes are going to provide entrepreneurship opportunities to her students.
