To pay homage to the epoch-making poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Department of English in collaboration with Department of Urdu organized a Seminar entitled ???In Commemoration of Faiz Ahmad Faiz??? on 16th March 2023 at Jinnah Auditorium, GCWUF under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Robina Farooq (TI) GCWUF. The seminar aimed to infuse students with Faiz???s humanity through his poetry which transcends temporal, spatial and geographical limitations. The event was graced by the chief guests Dr. Ali Madeeh Hashmi, the grandson of Faiz Ahmed Faiz and a renowned psychiatrist and Prof Dr. Mazar Hayat Chairperson Department of English GCUF. The guests of honor included Dr. Saeed Ahmed Chairperson department of Urdu GCUF, Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Qadri Chairperson department of Urdu, Riphah International University Faisalabad and Mr. Khawar Nawazish Associate professor Department of Urdu at BZU Multan. Ms Fauzia Amin Lecturer English department and Hina Shabbir Visiting Lecturer English department hosted the event. The event was attended by Prof Dr Zill-e-Huma Nazli Pro VC GCWUF, Mr Asif Malik Registrar GCWUF, Dr. Rukhsana Baloch Coordinator Faculty of Humanities and Languages, Dr Syeda Samina Tahira Incharge Department of Education, Dr Asma Aziz DSA, Dr. Sadaf Naqvi Incharge Department of Urdu, Ms. Saira Akhter Incharge Department of English and Faculty members of various departments of GCWUF. After recitation of Holy Quran and Naat, welcome note was given by Dr. Rukhsana Baloch Coordinator Faculty of Humanities and Languages. Mr Asif Malik Registrar GCWUF shared his views on the significance of such literary sittings. A documentary on the life and political & poetical struggle of Faiz Ahmed Faiz was presented by English Department. All the worthy speakers discussed comprehensively the variegated dimensions of Faiz???s poetry. Dr Shabbir Ahmed Qadri elaborated the significance of the social message in Faiz's poetry. Dr. Saeed Ahmed elaborated structure and themes of Faiz???s poetry. Dr. Khawar Nawazish enlightened the audience about Faiz???s progressive poetry. Prof. Dr. Mazhar Hayat rationalizes Faiz???s philosophy of peace & humanity beyong borders. For him, the poet is one who laughs and weeps with the people. Prof. Dr. Ali Madeeh Hashmi talked on political and moral significance of Faiz???s poetry. He shared some very important aspects of Faiz???s personality with students, and enlightened them with the genuine message of Faiz???s poetry. A beautiful tableau was performed by the students of department of Urdu on "Lazim hai kae hum bhi dekhenge" - a very famous poem of Faiz. Dr. Zille Huma Nazli thanked all the worthy guests and presented souvenirs to them.
