Government College Women University Faisalabad conducted a seminar and awareness walk regarding gender-based violence in the context of internationally observed 16 Days of Activism against GBV. Provincial Ombudsperson Nabila Hakim Ali attended the event as the Chief Guest. The event was collaboratively organized by the Women Development Centre, DSA, and the Department of Sociology under the patronage of Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Zill-i-Huma Nazli. A large number of teachers and students participated in the walk along with the Provincial Ombudsperson, senior police officials, registrar GCWUF Mr. Asif A Malik, Controller of Examination Ms. Rizwana Tanvir Randhawa, Coordinator Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Ayesha Sameen, and heads of all teaching departments. Director Students Affairs and Focal Person Women Development Centre Dr Asma Aziz delivered the welcome speech and explained objectives of the event. The Chief Guest, Ms. Nabila Hakim Khan praised the Government of Pakistan for passing strict laws against gender-based violence as these are made to protect the rights of women against social, political, or cultural antagonism. She informed the students about the aims and objectives of the Provincial Ombudsperson???s Office. She urged the students to raise their voices for their rights and report the abuse and violence against them so that law enforcement agencies could help the victims in time. RPO Dr. Abid, in his address, emphasised demolishing social taboos and stereotypes against feminine gender. He emphasised to ensure women's protection and provide equal rights to her in society. Talking about role of the Police department in this regard, he explained that that establishment of the front desks in police stations, Tahaffuz Markaz, and Anti-Women Harassment Cells are a clear manifestation of the institution fulfilling its responsibility. SSP Operations Dr. Rizwan Ahmed Khan said that women's awareness of laws is the guarantee of their protection. Referring to hybrid war, he urged the teachers and students to learn strategies to safeguard their privacy. By doing this, they can protect themselves from cybercrimes and threats to their personal spaces. He introduced a positive and supportive face of Punjab police that is ever ready to serve all distressed people. His speech led to a question -answer session. Inspector Gulnaz and other police officials also addressed the audience. In the end, Registrar GCWUF Mr. Asif Malik thanked the distinguished guests on behalf of the Vice Chancellor GCWUF. He proudly explained the strategic approach of the university in becoming a harrasment free campus that ensures a protected environment for its students and staff.
