Seminar on Taxation and Sustainable Development Goals at GCWUF The Department of Management Sciences at GCWUF organized a one-day seminar on "The Role of Taxation in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals: A Focus on Pakistan" on February 10, 2025, in the Video Conference Room. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen (T.I.) graced the event as the Chief Guest. The seminar was coordinated by Dr. Saima Akram and Dr. Nausheen Syed, with Ms. Asia Parveen and Ms. Nimra Iqbal handling event arrangements. Guest speaker Mr. M. Usama Jalil, CEO of M/S JK Law Associate and Executive Member of the Faisalabad Tax Bar Association, shared insights from his five years of experience in tax and corporate matters. He emphasized the role of taxation in financing sustainable development, particularly in reducing poverty, addressing inequality, and fostering economic growth. Discussions highlighted Pakistan???s challenges, including a low tax-to-GDP ratio, tax evasion, and weak administrative systems. The speaker stressed the need for tax reforms, digitalization, and stronger enforcement to enhance compliance. Students actively participated, raising concerns about tax collection and fairness.
