Considering the significance of trees, Horticultural Society under the umbrella of Department of Botany, GC Women University, Faisalabad celebrated National Tree Plantation Day on 18th of August 2017. The purpose of this activity was to evoke importance of tree plantation by giving emphasis on ecosystem integrity and to provide awareness in the community about valuable outcome of tree plantation and management (planting, execution, monitoring and modification) practices. The chief guest of this event was Dr. Noreen Aziz Qureshi (Vice chancellor, GCWUF). She had delivered a motivational address by saying that commemoration of such national days is very important to raise awareness among masses about such noble causes. She motivated the participants by quoting that every educated person has to play his/her role in society in his/her own capacity, so grow a tree and be like that tree. The honorable guests/speakers of the event were Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Hussain, Chairman Department of Botany, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and Prof. Dr. Shahzad Maqsood Ahmad Basra, Department of Agronomy, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The honorable guest/speaker described the instrumental and intrinsic value of plants. He enlightened the audience with importance of tree plantation. The distinguished guest Dr. Shahzad Maqsood Ahmad Basra had highlighted the importance of trees by focusing on the basic need of life i.e. oxygen for sustainable life on this planet. He presented the statistical calculation of per person oxygen demand that each person inhales 550 Liter air per day so he/she requires approximately 3 trees to fulfill his breathing requirements.
