Contamination of soil due to heavy metal accumulation because of various anthropogenic activities is a major concern of environmental biology. Due to their non-biodegradable nature metals persist in the environment and pose a threat to all living organisms by entering the food chain. Therefore, remediation of contaminated lands is of supreme importance. The interests of this group are focused on the following aspects: mechanism of uptake of heavy metals, their translocation and detoxification in plants. We are also focused to remediate the metals affected soil by implementation of eco-friendly approach of phytoremediation, exploring the phytoremediation potential of hyperaccumulator and non-accumulator plants, improvement of phytoextraction efficiency by applying the strategies like microbe assisted and chelate assisted approaches.
