Ethnobotany is the study of interrelations between humans and plants. It provides an insight into how people of a particular culture and region benefit from plants. This field often requires collaboration from various disciplines such as anthropology, ecology, pharmacy, linguistics, medicine, and ethnography. In Botany department GCWUF, Ethnobotany group under the guidance of Dr. Rashda Naheed focus on statistically supported documentation of plant traditional usage specially assigning Relative Reliability Index Values, pharmacological verification of plants stated in different herbal systems by isolating their bioactive ingredients and phytochemical and toxicological profiling of local flora. The research group will further shift their focus on ethnophytotechnology, the use of plant biotechnology to improve or enhance the inherent economic or culturally valuable traits of plants as described and influenced by ethnobotany.
