PI Name: Dr. Sadia Nazir Project duration: 2 Years Total Approved Budget: Rs 1.347887 Million Abstract: Flame retardants (FRs) are the additives which endow polymeric materials (fabric/fibers) with good flame retarding attributes. Permanent fire proofing of cellulosic materials is still an unsolved problem. Only a surface treatment is not sufficient to serve the purpose of fire resistance. Therefore, development of task specific, cost effective and wash resistant Phosphorous-Nitrogen based FRs hold a great potential of serving environment friendly and halogen free retardants. Novel formaldehyde-free, phosphorus-nitrogen synergistic Phosphoramidate based flame retardants were synthesized and evaluated for their fire resistance ability on cotton fabric. Phosphoramidate and their derivatives are very promising additives for flame retardation due to the synergistic effect of phosphorus and nitrogen due to their diverse modes of action. The alkylphosphoramidates and their derivatives were synthesized and applied to cotton fabric and characterized by FTIR, Flammability test, burning rate and limited oxygen Index.
