PAK-USAID: Novel Compounds By Structural Modifications Of Anti-HIV Drug (Delavirdine) And Their Antiviral Screening

Principal Investigator: Dr. Sana Aslam Overseas Co-operating Scientists/PI: Dr. Raymond F Schinazi Project Duration: 36 months Project Status: Completed Total Cost: (Rs. million) Rs. 2.580192/- Goals Achieved The project is definitely enabled me to establish my research group and research laboratory which enable a young women scientist to do science. The institution strengthened by the access to instruments as well as apparatus purchased during first year of project. The Department of chemistry is furnished by the following research instruments/equipments i.e. Rotary Evaporator With Vacuum Pump, analytical Balance/ digital weighing balance top pan, and magnetic stirrer with ceramic hotplates. The project is ever first international research project being conducted in the university. The purchase of permanent equipment and expendable supplies has now smooth lined the requisite procedures for the purchase and payments according to HEC rules. Moreover, the students here are now being trained for synthetic organic chemistry. In summary, I have successfully completed the final phase of my research project which is the synthesis of precursor heterocycles based on benzimidazole and their derivatives followed by the synergism of potent biologically active different heterocyclic nuclei like benzimidazole, benzothiazine and pyrimidine. Moreover, two students would be trained for synthetic work under my supervision. The next stage covers the characterization of prepared novel compounds by spectroscopic techniques as well as their biological evaluation.
