One Day Webinar on Policy Development for Pollution Control and Sustainable Development " in Video conference room, GCWUF successfully held today. Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq, Vice Chancellor GC Women University was Patron of the event, Dr. Zill-i-Huma Nazli, Chairperson Department of Chemistry, Coordinator Science and Technology, was convener and Dr Farhat Jubeen, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry was focal person of the webinar. Two resource persons?? Dr Muhammad Zubair from Department of Chemistry, University of Gujrat and Dr Mazhar Iqbal from Department of Environmental sciences, Quad-i-Azam university delivered talks in the webinar. Webinar was inaugurated by recitation from Holy Quran by Ms. Sonia Javed followed by Naat e Rasool e Maqbool by Ms Tanzila. Dr Zill I Huma Nazli welcomed the resource persons, chairpersons, directors and participants. 146 faculty members, researchers and students from various universities and research institutes attended the webinar. The motive behind organizing this webinar was a step forward to develop zero emission policy from vehicles in the campus of GCWUF. Dr Muhammad Zubair talked about "Emerging environmental Pollution and Contamination, Reason, Effects and Mitigation for Sustainable Policy Development". Dr Zubair delivered a very interesting talk by highlighting current situation of air and water contaminated by automobile exhaust, combustion engines of various industries and their impact on human health, he also highlighted certain environmental protection policies developed over the years in 1983, 1997, 2001 and 2005. Dr Zubair also focused on need of strict implementation of these policies and development of new policies as well. Dr Mazhar Iqbal talked about " Reducing Toxicity of Heavy Metals in Plants using Different Amendments & Microbes". Dr Mazhar highlighted how penetration of heavy metals through soil can affect mitochondrial respiration in plants and can lead to damaging effects in different plant parts which ultimately lead to contamination of human food supply. He also enforced the need to develop policies for food safety monitoring and their strict implementation. Dr Zill I Huma Nazli gave her concluding remarks regarding both the talks. Prof. Dr Robina Farooq highly appreciated the talks of both speakers gave her view point of transforming to a pollution free environment by encompassing artificial intelligence.
