International Webinar & Workshop on Aquaponic Farming (February 23-25th, 2021) Organized by Department of Botany & Zoology, GCWUF, under Higher Education Commission Technology Development Fund Project (TDF02-178) A three-day International Webinar and Workshop on ???Aquaponic Farming??? was organized under Higher Education Commission Technology Development Fund Project (TDF02-178) from 23-25th February, 2021. This event was the first research oriented joint venture of Department of Botany and Zoology, GCWUF. More than 400 participants and speakers from Pakistan, Turkey, UK, Bangladesh, UAE, Morocco and Egypt registered webinar session held on 23rd February and showed keen interest in development of Aquaponic Technology. Notable speakers included Prof. Dr. Naureen Aziz Qureshi (former VC, GCWUF), Prof. Dr. M. A. Salam (Deptt of Aquaculture, Univ. of Bangladesh, Bangladesh), Mr. Salman Farooq (Senior Director Enterprise Marketing, Telco, UAE), Dr. Turker BODUR (Deptt of Aquaculture, Akdeniz Univ. Antalya, Turkey), Dr. Sajid Iqbal Sandhu (CEO, The Green Circle, and Director, Clean and Green Pakistan, Agri-Tourism Development Corporation of Pakistan). Other guests who attended the event included Mr. Tariq Tanveer (CEO and Founder, Agri-Tourism Development Corporation of Pakistan), Dr. Khalid Mahmood Shouq (Director, Media and Information, Agri-Tourism Development Corporation of Pakistan), Dr. Yasin Randhawa (Director, Research and Development, Agri-Tourism Development Corporation of Pakistan). Professor Dr. Robina Farooq, worthy Vice Chancellor, GCWUF (Patron In-Chief of the event) emphasized the need of adopting healthy lifestyle. She encouraged the use of organic food and commended Aquaponics Research Team on organizing such a knowledgeable event at International level. Activities of 2nd Day (24th February, 2021) included Hand-on Training of running an Aquaponics system. Technical session was physically attended by more than 200 participants divided in small groups observing SOPs of covid-19. The resource persons Dr Ambreen Khadija Alvi (PI TDF02-178) and Dr Safina Kousar (Co-PI TDF02-178) gave demonstration to participants on various aspects of Aquaponics. The participants were taught how to prepare seedlings and media beds, measurement of water quality parameters, fish management in the system and demonstration of a working Aquaponic system. Overwhelming response from participants encouraged the organizing team to arrange similar activities in future.
