Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first university in Pakistan to establish a Student Chapter of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) under the Department of Mathematics . The chapter has been established under the Faculty of Computing and Numerical Sciences with the objective of promoting research, leadership, innovation, and international academic collaboration among students. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz), who officially inaugurated the SIAM Student Chapter on 04-06-2026. In her address, she appreciated the active participation of students and encouraged them to focus on academic excellence, advanced research, and global networking opportunities to further develop their professional skills and research capabilities. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Saima Akram, Chairperson/ Coordinator, Faculty of Computing and Numerical Sciences, introduced the mission and objectives of SIAM and highlighted the significance of establishing the Student Chapter at GCWUF. She emphasized that the chapter would provide students with an international platform to engage in scientific research, professional development, and academic collaboration. During the ceremony, the newly elected student executive body of the SIAM Student Chapter was also introduced. The event was attended by faculty members, administrative officers, heads of academic departments, coordinators, and a large number of students. The establishment of the SIAM Student Chapter will offer students valuable opportunities to access international research resources, scientific journals, professional networking, workshops, conferences, and global scientific activities, thereby strengthening their academic and research potential.
