The Department of Physics successfully organized a two-day workshop titled Advanced Computational and Visualization Tools for Materials Research and Solar Cell Design on 5 6 May 2026 under the visionary leadership of Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen (T.I), Vice Chancellor GCWUF. The event was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Ayesha Younus, Chairperson/Associate Professor, with Dr. Yusra Arooj serving as the focal person. Expert training sessions were delivered by Dr. Syed M. Alay-e-Abbas and Dr. Sofia Akbar Tahir, focusing on computational approaches in materials research and solar cell design. Participants received hands-on training in AFORS-HET for solar cell device simulation and explored the Materials Project database for material selection and analysis. Advanced tools including Wafer Ray Tracer, WIEN2K, and VESTA were demonstrated to provide practical exposure to optical simulation, electronic structure calculations, and crystal structure visualization. The workshop enhanced participants understanding of photovoltaic systems, material modeling, and modern computational workflows. Active participation from students and faculty reflected strong academic engagement throughout the event. The workshop also promoted awareness of sustainable energy technologies aligned with SDG-4, SDG-7, and SDG-9. The Department of Physics expressed sincere gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and Prof. Dr. Zill-i-Huma Nazli, Coordinator Science and Technology/Director Academics, for their continuous support. Shields were presented to resource persons in recognition of their valuable contributions.
