Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) conducted a webinar on the topic ???Problems and Challenges in Implementing the SDGs in Higher Education Institutes??? on November 8th, 2022 i-e Tuesday in the Video Conference Room. The session started in the name of Allah (the most merciful and beneficial). Dr. Aasma Khalid, Director Quality Enhancement Cell GCWUF, started the session by introducing the guest speaker, Dr. Muhammad Haroon Khan, Associate Professor in Health Sciences/Director ORIC/Team Lead SDGs Accelerator & Local Challenges Research Lab, City University of Science and Information Technology, Peshawar for this very important and informative session. As this session was conducted on hybrid mode, all the Heads of Teaching Departments and Faculty members of GCWUF were present physically and more than 50 members of the Directorate of the Quality Enhancement Cells of other institutions participated online in this very valuable session. Dr. Muhammad Haroon Khan briefed all the participants on the current challenges and issues that are faced by the Higher Education Sector in implementing the SDGs at their institutes. To counter the issue with regard the SDGs, Ministry of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives (MoP&SI), Government of Pakistan, P&D Departments of provincial governments with the support of UNDP Pakistan has launched a five years joint project of "National Initiative for Sustainable Development Goals to institutionalize 2030 Agenda. At the national level Federal SDGs Support Unit was established at the ministry with mandate to ensure early nationalization of SDGs.Mr Khan further elaborated that if the SDGs are to be truly successful at a global scale, universities need to become champions of sustainable development and play a leading role in the implementation of the SDGs. The scope of Sustainable Development Goals is very much vast and shelters almost all the Disciplines which are being studied at various Universities. By enforcing SDGs in our various disciplines, we will be able to rank our institution among various other institutions internationally. This will also help us in achieving the National Vision 2025 of Pakistan and UN Agenda 2030 globally. After the completion of lecture, the Question/Answer session was conducted where the participants frequently asked various questions regarding their issues in implementing the SDGs. The speaker thoroughly answered all the question and guided them in providing the solutions of their challenges. At the end of the session,Vice Chancellor GCWUF Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq (T.I), thanked all the participants and appreciated the efforts of Director QEC & her team members for conducting this very knowledgeable and fruitful session for everybody.
