On Tuesday 17-10-2023 attended online orientation training session on Graduate Education Policy-2023 arranged by Quality Assurance Divisions of HEC Islamabad. The Dy. Director HEC Quality Assurance Dr. Abaidullah Anwar presented a very good and comprehensive presentation of Graduate Education policy 2023. All Heads of institutions, attended this orientation session. Dr. Abaidullah Anwar gave the detailed information regarding the scope and implementation of Graduate Education Policy (GEP 2023) in the universities. He described that the (GEP 2023) introduced new framework, requirements and structure for all graduate degree programs. The Graduate Education Policy (GEP 2023) has been framed according to the National Education Policy and the needs of global requirements as well. He also talked about the past experiences how in 2005 the HEC announced a uniform policy and gradually it framed according to the needs of education and global changes. He talked about the top-ranked universities/DAIs/HEIs not required the No Objection Certificate (NOC). If these universities/DAIs have not violated the HEC???s rules, regulations or policies. He also informed that the University may Conduct a test equivalent to GRE/HAT General developed at university, with the passing score of 60%. OR accept a test equivalent to GRE/HAT General, conducted by testing bodies accredited by HEC, with a passing score of 60%. He told the Minimum Requirements for Academic faculty. At least two full time faculty members holding PhD degrees in the relevant field shall be available/appointed to the department to launch an MS/MPhil/Equivalent program that may be increased up to three if a PhD program is also to be launched in the same discipline and department. The grievance system and policies must be implemented. The DAIs/ HEIs has the right to nominate supervisor at university level. The impactful research must be encouraged and we should step forward towards self-accreditation status to an HEIs commitments. Dr. Abaidullah also gave the radical information regarding admission criteria, credit hours, degree completion time, research and publication of level 7 and level 8-degree programs.
