In connection with, Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Planning and Development Board Government of Punjab, The Department of Food Science and Technology, GCWUF organized an Orientation session entitled ???Enhancing Nutrition Through Research and Multi sectoral Approach SUN Academia and Research Network (SUNAR) Punjab??? under the Directorates of International Collaborations, Global Engagement and Industrial linkages GCWUF on 10th May, 2024 in Video Conference Room. Prof. Dr. Aysha Sameen (Chairperson, Department of Food Science and Technology) warmly welcomed the Keynote Speaker Mr. Ateeq ul Rehman and commenced the session with her preamble. Esteemed Vice Chancellor GCWUF, Prof. Dr. Zilli Huma Nazli along with dignitaries Mrs Rizwana Tanveer Randhawa (Controller of Examinations, GCWUF), Dr. Aasma Khalid (Director QEC), Prof. Dr. Saima Akram (Coordinator, Faculty of Science and Technology, GCWUF), Dr. Rukhsana Baloch (Coordinator, Faculty of Humanities and Languages, GCWUF), Dr. Sadia Asim (Director Planning and Development), Dr. Hira Munir (Director ORIC), Ms. Ammara Javaid (Incharge Media cell), Dr. Abida Kousar (Head, Department of Botany), Dr. Salma Shahid (Incharge, Department of Biochemistry), Dr. Sajida Parveen (Incharge, Department of Sociology), Dr. Madiha Ilyas (Incharge, Department of Nutritional Sciences) and Ms Ayesha Hussain (Incharge Department of Home Economics) graced the event. The session was led by a keynote speaker Mr. Ateeq ul Rehman (Programme Coordinator, Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Planning and Development Board, GOP). As focal person, he talked about the pivotal connection of proper nutrition and human health. He discussed the various forms of malnutrition such as stunting, wasting, underweight and micronutrient deficiencies (most commonly Anemia and Vit. D) prevalent among deprived communities and affluent groups. He displayed the cognitive abilities of infants brain are affected by poor nutrition and unhealthy dietary habits. He summarized the statistical facts and figures relevant to nutrition situation among children under five year and women that becomes worst in near future due to huge economic losses and challenges currently existing in Pakistan. During the session, the resource person focused on investing nutrition can break the poverty cycle, escalate the country GDP, improve the health outcomes and economic productivity. He proposed a few direct and indirect interventions such as food security, health care, environmental concerns, infrastructure, available resources, education and awareness to diminish the menace of malnutrition. He outlined the unsafe water management practices prevailing in our premises that are critical environmental drivers for hygienic sanitation systems. He highlighted his insights and expertises to ensure safe food affordability and lifestyle modifications for everyone to boost their physical, mental and nutritional state. Later, Guest Speaker addressed on multi sectoral approach is crucial to control nutritional challenges in order to involvement of various fields i.e. agriculture, livestock, diary, poultry and their association with Government organizations, civil societies, private sectors, academia, industries and donor agencies. Besides, an interactive question and answer session was conducted to clarify the ambiguities and queries of audience. Lastly, Prof. Dr. Zilli Huma Nazli (Vice Chancellor GCWUF) concluded the event expressing gratitude to the attendees followed by presenting souvenirs to the honorable speaker as well as certificates were distributed among position holders of Poster competition.
