Dr. Madiha Ilyas participated as an Invited Speaker at the 1st International Conference on Sustainable Approaches to Address Global Food Security Challenges, held from October 21-23, 2025. She delivered a highly engaging and evidence-based presentation on Impact of Plant-Based Diets on Human Health, receiving wide appreciation from experts and participants. In her talk, Dr. Ilyas highlighted the spectrum of plant-based diets, ranging from vegetarian and vegan approaches to flexitarian and Mediterranean-style eating patterns, emphasizing their role in preventing and managing chronic disorders such as hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, cancer, arthritis, and obesity. She provided detailed insights into the nutraceutical potential of Moringa oleifera, Aloe vera, Chamomile, and Chia seeds, focusing on their bioactive compounds and health-promoting effects. Dr. Ilyas also discussed the impact of plant-based diets on gut health, mental well-being, and cognitive outcomes, reinforcing the connection between nutrition, brain health, and overall quality of life. She concluded her session with practical guidance on building a balanced plant-based plate, integrating diverse foods to meet macro- and micronutrient needs while promoting sustainable and healthful eating habits. In addition to her scholarly contribution, Dr. Madiha Ilyas served as a Judge at the Food Expo in Food Product Development Competition, evaluated innovative, nutrition-focused products developed by participants, and supported the translation of scientific knowledge into practical, consumer-friendly food solutions. Her participation underscored the critical role of plant-based nutrition and functional foods in advancing global health, sustainable diets, and food security.
