Department of Chemistry Promotes Sustainable Water Conservation and Sanitation SolutionsÚThe Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) at Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF), organized a seminar titled “Water Conservation & Sanitation” on May 21, 2025. The event aligned with Sustainable Development Goal #6: Clean Water and Sanitation.ÚÚDr. Rehana Naseer served as the seminar’s focal person under the supervision of Dr. Abida Kousar, Incharge of the Department of Chemistry. The seminar targeted students participating in the Young Initiative—a project by the Ministry of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives aimed at implementing SDGs at GCWUF. It aimed to raise awareness about the critical role of clean water and sanitation in public health, environmental sustainability, and socio-economic growth.ÚÚKeynote speaker Engr. Hafiz Muhammad Awais Jamal, Deputy Director WASA Faisalabad, discussed water conservation techniques, metering, and effective sanitation practices. He addressed challenges like water scarcity, pollution, and inefficient usage, suggesting solutions such as water reuse, rainwater harvesting, and awareness campaigns.ÚÚMr. Waqas Ahmed Khan, Research Officer at Public Health Engineering Faisalabad, highlighted sanitation infrastructure, public health impacts, and strategies to achieve SDG 6. He emphasized scientific approaches, community participation, and policy implementation for sustainable sanitation.ÚÚFaculty and students of GCWUF attended the seminar, with many joining online. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zill-i-Huma Nazli concluded the event by presenting souvenirs to the guest speakers in appreciation of their valuable insights.
