Commissioner Faisalabad Highlights Civic Responsibility to Combat Smog at GCWUFÚÚFaisalabad, October 8, 2025 — Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) organized a seminar titled “Smog in Urban Pakistan: Causes, Challenges, and Sustainable Solutions.”ÚCommissioner Faisalabad Division Raja Jahangir Anwar attended as Chief Guest, along with Additional Commissioner Aamir Raza, while Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen (T.I.), Vice Chancellor GCWUF, presided over the event.ÚÚCommissioner Anwar emphasized that both government action and individual responsibility are vital to combat smog. He identified vehicular emissions, construction dust, and plastic waste as key pollution sources, urging students to become environmentally conscious citizens. He also highlighted government initiatives such as the Suthra Punjab Program, introduction of electric buses, and the e-bike scheme for female students. The Commissioner also planted a tree on campus to promote environmental stewardship.ÚÚProf. Dr. Kanwal Ameen underscored the importance of personal accountability, encouraging students to reduce plastic use and adopt sustainable practices. She shared GCWUF’s eco-friendly initiatives, including water filtration units and the discontinuation of bottled water in offices.ÚÚThe event concluded with an interactive discussion, inspiring students to take action for a cleaner and greener Pakistan. It was jointly organized by the Directorate of Students’ Affairs, Department of Chemistry, and the Clean and Green Society.
