On the auspicious occasion of Meelad un Nabi (SAW), the Department of Nutritional Sciences, GCWUF displayed a stall on "Favourite Foods of Holy Prophet (PBUH)". Different food items have been developed and presented i.e. Dates: Date balls and date cookies are prepared which are rich in essential nutrients, fibre, protective antioxidants and phyto-nutrients. Dates are good for strengthening of bones, promote good brain health, improve digestive health, help to detoxify the body, and improve heart health. Other than these healthy benefits, our beloved Prophet (SAW) used to plant date trees himself. Figs: It is a fruit from paradise and is low in calories, good for bones. It???s a very good cure for stomach disorders. It helps in the curing of different kinds of cancers. It is also mentioned in the Noble Quran. Fig jam and Figs smoothie are prepared which are very nutritious and a good source of calcium, potassium and fibre. These minerals can work together to improve bone density, which can, in turn, prevent conditions like osteoporosis. It also supports healthy blood pressure and is helpful in weight management. Milk: Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) used to love having the milk of goat and camel which was common at that time. The Holy Prophet (SAW) said that milk wipes away heat from the heart. It strengthens the back, sharpens the brain, good for vision and drives away forgetfulness. Olives: are said to be the food of Prophets. Olive oil is an excellent treatment for skin and hair, delays old age, and treats inflammation of the stomach. It is also mentioned in the Quran Talbinah: it is a nutritious and energetic porridge made from whole grain barley flour powder, milk and honey that contains essential macro and micronutrients and good source of fibre and packed with Beta-glucans for a healthy breakfast. It helps to reduce depression, good for lowering cholesterol, glucose level, reduces the risk of heart disease and colon cancer. The Holy Prophet (SAW) recommended that barley is the cure for heart and kidney disease. Fruit Plate: Grapes: Our Prophet Muhammad ??? was very fond of grapes (??????). It has a lot of health benefits good for blood purification and beneficial for kidneys as well. Grapes are a good source of vitamins C and K and also contain protein, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and minerals. Grapes are mentioned in the Holy Quran Pomegranate: The Holy Prophet (SAW) said it cleanses you of Satan and evil aspirations for 40 days. Worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq (T.I.) visited the stall along with honourable guests and faculty members and appreciated the efforts of the Department of Nutritional Sciences.
