The Department of Nutritional Sciences, Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) organized a Nutrition Awareness Camp at The Educators School (Al-Hadi Campus), Faisalabad on 27th September, 2024 in collaboration with QEC under the directions of Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives (MoPDSI). The main objective of the activity was to promote nutrition awareness and healthy eating habits among common mases of the community. The event was basically aimed to showcase the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-3): "Good Health and Well-being." It was divided into different segments as: Nutritional Assessment, Nutrition Counseling and Awareness Lectures. Almost 400 participants (students, teaching faculty & parents) were addressed on the important aspects. Nutritional Assessment: The camp was initiated with an introductory lecture on the importance of nutrition and healthy eating by the faculty members of the Department of Nutritional Sciences. After that, height, body weight, clinical signs and symptoms of the students were assessed to analyze their growth patterns and to identify any nutritional deficiency disorder. Food frequency questionnaires were filled to evaluate the eating habits and dietary patterns of the students, parents, and teaching faculty. Dietary guidelines were provided to the students and their parents in the 2nd phase, i.e., Nutrition Counselling. Mothers were also encouraged to prepare fresh and healthy food items for their children rather than processed foods. Healthy foods related guidelines were delivered to teaching faculty as well. Students were also motivated for the intake of fruits, vegetables, and dairy products on regular basis. In the third phase, awareness lectures on Healthy Eating on various topics such as balanced diet, my plate, child nutrition, and management of micronutrient deficiency disorders were delivered to parents, faculty, and students. At the end of the session, a short quiz was conducted, and gifts with healthy notes were distributed among the students. Informative brochures were also distributed among the participants. Question answer session was conducted to answer the nutrition related queries and myths. In the end, the Head of the Educators School shared her concluding remarks and appreciated the efforts of the Department of Nutritional Sciences to organize such an informative session.
