Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen (T.I), the Departments of Nutritional Sciences and Biochemistry, GCWUF, jointly organized a one-day seminar on Integrating Natural Products and Nutraceuticals for Wellness on April 22, 2025, at Jinnah Auditorium. The session opened with the recitation of Holy Quran and and Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (SAW), followed by welcoming remarks from Dr. Madiha Ilyas (HOD, NutritionalSciences) & Dr. Mubashra Sadia (HOD, Biochemistry) who emphasized the role of herbalism and nutraceuticals in wellness and chronic disease prevention. Both HODs acknowledged the university support, while Prof. Dr. Zill-i-Huma Nazli, Pro-Vice Chancellor, delivered the vote of thanks and appreciated the organizers, and highlighting the modern relevance of natural products. The Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen (T.I), Chief Guest, formally inaugurated the exhibition and visited the stalls set up by students and faculty, featuring innovative displays and research on natural products and nutraceuticals She appreciated the creativity and efforts of both Departments. She emphasized the rising importance of nutraceuticals and natural products in wellness and preventive healthcare, encouraging entrepreneurship, research, and regulated use of herbal therapies. She appreciated the guest speakers insights and acknowledged Mr. Randhawa proposal for Academia-Industry collaboration to promote student-led innovation. The technical session featured insightful talks by distinguished speakers. Prof. Dr. Shahzad Basra (Ex-Chairman, Department of Crop Physiology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad) emphasized the market demand for lactose-free, gluten-free, low-carb, fiber- and omega-3-rich products, highlighting factors like affordability, accessibility, and shelf life. Prof. Dr. Khalil-ur-Rehman (Director-RIUF) discussed product processing, packaging, and marketing, including regulatory registrations and social media outreach. Mr. Yasin Randhawa (Chief Executive, Legume Herbs Products, Faisalabad) stressed biodiversity, nutrition, anti-cancer products, hormone-boosting supplements, and entrepreneurship training in functional foods. Dr. Zeghum addressed palm oil in formulations, aflatoxin risks, and rising vegan protein demand. Prof. Dr. Anjum Zia (Chairman Department of Biochemistry, UAF) emphasized medicinal plants, focusing on Streptokinase, Stevia, and Banaba for heart disease and diabetes treatment. Dr. Khalid Mahmood Shouq (Chief Editor News and Views and member of Agritourism of Pakistan) underlined academia-industry collaboration to strengthen local industries, and Mian Jamal (Chief Executive, Jamal Agri-Farm, Toba Tek Singh) offered support for marketing students innovative products nationally and internationally. The seminar highlighted the role of natural products in public health and encouraged dialogue and collaboration. Souvenirs were presented to guests, while certificates were awarded to the organizing team and internship students of Department Nutritional Sciences and Biochemistry. The program concluded with the national anthem, symbolizing unity and harmony between both departments.
