Dr. Madiha Ilyas, Head of the Department of Nutritional Sciences, GC Women University Faisalabad, participated as a Keynote Panelist Speaker in an online seminar organized to mark World Mental Health Day. In her talk on the Role of Nutrition in Mental Health, Dr. Ilyas highlighted the growing scientific evidence linking diet with mental well-being, mood regulation, and cognitive performance. She discussed the significance of the brain-gut axis, the impact of nutrient deficiencies such as Omega-3 fatty acids, B-vitamins, iron, zinc, and vitamin D, and the role of anti-inflammatory dietary patterns like the Mediterranean diet in preventing depression and anxiety. She emphasized the emerging field of Nutritional Psychology, advocating for its integration into mental health care and educational systems. Concluding her address, Dr. Ilyas stated: Nutrition shapes not only our physical health but also our emotions and mental resilience. Prioritizing nutrition can lead to a more holistic approach toward mental well-being. Her insightful participation brought recognition to the Department and reinforced GCWUFs commitment to promoting mental and nutritional health awareness through academic and community engagement.
