Dr. Madiha Ilyas, Head of the Department of Nutritional Sciences, Government College Women University Faisalabad, participated as a Panellist Speaker in the prestigious Orbit Conference on Future of Nutrition and Dietetics in Pakistan- A Regulatory Perspective, organized by Riphah International University, Lahore in collaboration with Signs International on August 6, 2025. The hybrid conference brought together distinguished keynote speakers, senior academicians, healthcare professionals, and policymakers from Pakistan and abroad to deliberate on the regulatory framework and future directions of the nutrition and dietetics profession. Dr. Madiha Ilyas, emphasized the urgent need for institutional integration and workforce regulation in the nutrition profession. She highlighted that qualified nutrition professionals must be formally integrated into healthcare systems, universities, and public health programs, and called for the establishment of a National Nutrition Council to ensure licensing, professional ethics, and standardized practice. Dr. Madiha stressed that nutrition should move to the core of healthcare, with recognition of clinical nutrition as a specialized discipline. She urged universities to modernize curricula with evidence-based learning, digital tools, and emerging fields such as nutrigenomics and molecular nutrition, while promoting local research on maternal and community nutrition. Addressing Pakistan double burden of malnutrition and rising non-communicable diseases, she underscored the need for stronger policies, intersectoral collaboration, and deployment of community nutritionists at the district level. Highlighting the role of technology and AI-driven nutrition, she called for training in tele-nutrition and digital counselling. She also advocated for ethical practices in the food industry, youth engagement in public health awareness, and integration of climate-smart and sustainable nutrition practices. Concluding her address, Dr. Madiha urged educators and policymakers to professionalize nutrition practice and ensure that every citizen of Pakistan has access to reliable, ethical, and evidence-based nutrition care.
