Prof. Dr. Zill-i-Huma Nazli, Coordinator Faculty of Science and Technology and convener of the event also graced the occasion and appreciated the efforts of Department of Botany. Distinguished speakers including Muhammad Aqeel Feroz (Senior Scientist), Barani Agricultural Research Institute Chakwal and Muhammad Asim (Scientific Officer), Citrus Research Institute Sargodha who covered the topics 1= High value fruit farming in Pakistan 2= Citrus industry in Pakistan The knowledge sharing session started with the talk of Muhammad Aqeel Feroz who addressed the importance of new trends in agriculture. As agriculture-based country we are not focusing in this sector. Conventional cropping doesn???t earn much revenue, instead some of it must be processed to other high value products. Pakistan imports olive oil worth three billion dollars annually, however the establishment of olive valley in Chakwal to lessen the import and increase the oil production will be helpful in future to reduce the expenses of oil import. He further added that initially, grapes farming was confined to cold regions but now technology has enabled grapes production in high temperature areas of Pakistan as well. He gave a comprehensive comparison of various fruits i.e., peach, blackberry, avocado, fig and stevia etc. production with reference to conventional and modern ways of cultivation. The distinguishing speaker Muhammad Asim gave the second talk of the event about citrus industry in Pakistan. He reinforced the importance of native fruits of Pakistan. He stated that citrus production is less than the demand, even though it is a cash crop in international market but currently we are only exporting kinnow mandarin. Research is being conducted to improve its quality, production and make it seedless as international market trend is shifted towards the seedless fruits. He discussed the citrus production and marketing procedure, highlighted the differences of various irrigation systems, citrus supply chain, pack house operations for export, packing for local markets, standards of various kinnow importing countries, mode of kinnow export to different countries and finally the various issues which hamper its production. The event was concluded with the vote of thanks. Tree plantation is one of the best activities for making the planet greener, livelier and healthier. We could not exclusively be occupied with tree plantation yet also energize others to plant tress at whatever point and any place the time and resources allow them. Feeling the importance and need of plantation, the Department of Botany, GC Women University Faisalabad arranged an in-campus plantation activity. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Robina FarooqT.I., Prof. Dr. Zill-i-Huma Nazli, Coordinator Faculty of Science and Technology and distinguishing guests of the seminar Muhammad Aqeel Feroz and Muhammad Asim planted Fig, Jamun. Amrud, Kikar and Buddha trees at various points i.e. at front of admin block and within the vicinity of??GCWUF??hostel.
